School Council

At The Grange Academy, we value pupil voice as an essential part of building a thriving school community. Our School Council plays a key role in representing the views of all pupils, shaping the school experience, and driving meaningful change. Led by one of our dedicated Year 4 teachers, Miss Vernon, the School Council ensures that every pupil has a platform to express their ideas, collaborate on projects, and contribute to school improvements.

What is a School Council?

A School Council is a group of students elected by their peers to act as their voice and work towards improving their school. At The Grange Academy, our School Council reflects our commitment to fostering responsibility, leadership, and curiosity among our pupils. It provides a platform for pupils to express their ideas, collaborate on projects, and create a positive impact on the school community.

Objectives for 2024/25

For the academic year 2024/25, the School Council has identified three key objectives:

Community and Cultural Connections

The School Council aims to strengthen ties between the school and the local community. This includes:

  • Organising events that celebrate cultural diversity and foster mutual respect.
  • Engaging families and local residents through activities like a Cultural Fair, promoting unity and shared learning.
  • Building partnerships with local organisations to enhance community involvement.

Wellbeing and Inclusion

Creating a positive and inclusive environment is a priority. The School Council will:

  • Promote mental health awareness through initiatives like Hello Yellow Day and kindness campaigns.
  • Support anti-bullying efforts to ensure every pupil feels safe and valued.
  • Develop projects that encourage empathy, respect, and a strong sense of belonging among all pupils.

Student Voice and Leadership

The School Council is committed to empowering pupils to shape their school experience. This will involve:

  • Gathering feedback through surveys and forums to ensure pupils’ ideas and concerns are heard.
  • Encouraging leadership opportunities, enabling pupils to develop their confidence and decision-making skills.
  • Working with school staff to implement improvements based on student input.

What Makes Our School Council Great?

An effective School Council listens, represents, and takes action. At The Grange Academy, our School Council is characterised by:

  • Regular Meetings: Consistent discussions to plan and implement projects.
  • Inclusive Representation: Members from all classes ensure every pupil has a voice.
  • Action-Oriented Approach: Council members are supported with a budget and resources to bring ideas to life.

Why is the School Council Important?

The School Council is a platform for pupils to:

  • Make a meaningful contribution to their school and community.
  • Develop essential skills such as leadership, communication, and teamwork.
  • Foster a sense of responsibility and ownership in their learning environment.
